We are going to be the last band in the parade, thus giving the ACT folks a chance to make it.

Since there will be many taking the ACT, we are planning on having the students meet at a designated location instead of traveling together on the busses. We will still have a truck for equipment and uniforms. More info to follow.

Gatlinburg’s Christmas Parade

November 17th, 2008

Hey parents, who’s riding the bus with me on Friday, December 5 to Gatlinburg? We are leaving the school during 3rd block – that’s band class. Plan ahead, take the day off and come play with us, the more the merrier. Just remember to dress warmly, once the sun goes down it will likely be chilly.

If you ride the bus, you won’t have to worry about parking and we usually stand at the end of the parade route so once the band goes by we can start loading the truck and get out quickly. Doug, the equipment truck driver, and the bus drivers have an excellent plan for getting us out of town before the major traffic jam.

Don’t forget to tell your student to make sure and drink plenty of fluids. We had a few sick ones last year. Even though it’s not hot, it’s still important to stay hydrated because it’s a long day with a tremendous amount of waking and a longggg way to march from the staging area to where the parade starts.

I’m looking forward to not being the only parent on the bus. See you about 11:40!

Booster Meeting 12/11

November 17th, 2008

Dear Band Booster Parents,

The December Booster meeting is Thursday, the 11th at 7:00 p.m.

We will be losing a significant number of incredible parents to graduation this year and we need new parents to join in and be active participants in the booster organization. Support your band student; spend an hour or so once a month attending the booster meetings. If you really want to support your student, volunteer for an officer’s position. The vice president, the concession manager, and the financial secretary will be leaving this year.

I look forward to seeing each of you,

Rick Shewmake

President

Last Concession Night

November 12th, 2008

Thank you to all the senior parents who worked so tirelessly in making our concession stand a success. We will miss you all.

Thank you to those who stepped up so the senior parents could take the night off and thank you to those who just dropped in to help.

ALL you wonderful folks came through to make our last major concession night of the year a success.

Domino’s Pizza Fundraiser

November 12th, 2008

At the same time we’re running the Honey Baked Ham promotion, we have cards available from Domino’s Pizza.

These cards are for TEN FREE PIZZAS!!! Each card costs $10 but the savings are approximately $60 - $70. Domino’s has given us the cards for $1 each.

IF EACH STUDENT IN THE BAND PURCHASES ONE CARD, THE BAND WILL MAKE $900.
FROM EACH CARD THE STUDENT SELLS, $5.00 WILL GO INTO THEIR BAND BANK ACCOUNT.

These individual accounts can be used toward the payment of next years band fees or this year’s senior trip. I’ve let my son’s account sit for all four years and I believe he has enough in it to pay for his senior trip. That’s a huge savings!! So…Domino’s and Honey Baked Ham. Something for dinner for everyone!!!

Look for the coffee baskets out in time for Christmas!! Please support your WBHS Band.

Honey Baked Ham Fundraiser

November 12th, 2008

This Thursday, November 13 begins our Honey Baked Ham certificate fundraiser. Order forms and instructions will be handed out but unfortunately, to guarantee a Thanksgiving delivery, the orders must be turned in on Monday, November 17. Then the certificates can be picked up on November 21. The second turn in date for a Christmas delivery is December 5 with the certificates ready for pick up on December 12.

Certificates are available in $10/25/35/50 dollar increments with the price of a ham averaging around $30 for a ¼ ham and $45 for a ½ ham that feeds 14-20 people. A turkey is around $35. Check out the web site for additional items that they also sell like, Tuxedo Mousse Cake, wow!

Call Marilyn if you have any questions @ 856-5077.

This is the best kind of fundraiser, no product to pick up or deliver, just selling certificates.
